Saturday 6th September 2014
Having decided I needed a challenge, I signed up for the Deloitte RAB 2014, a 969 mile ride from Lands End to John O’Groats! This is the 5th year the ride has taken place and there were over 800 cyclists in total. As many people were kind enough to offer sponsorship and support me in my madness I have raised money for the Mount Vernon Breast Cancer Research Unit – ‘Fighting Breast Cancer’ £11,400 so far…….You can still donate! www.justgiving.com/Steph-LE-JOG2014
It was a fantastic if somewhat challenging experience passing through 23 Counties and 3 countries along the route! Stunning scenery with some life affirming hills to climb, rewarded by great views and long descents. There was a real sense of family and camaraderie amongst the riders despite the vast number of us with everyone having their own personal challenges but all of us being united in our aim of completing the ride and raising as much money as possible for our individual charities.
We were incredibly lucky with the weather, sun all the way from start to finish and very little wind. We camped in tents at night but had amazing logistical, physical and moral support from Threshold Sports. Hot showers, great food, massages every other day and even some laundry!! What more does a girl need?
Having left Lands End early on 6th Sept we arrived in John O’Groats 9 days and over 900 miles later in the afternoon of 14th Sept. Threshold’s motto is ‘More is in You!’ and although several times along the way I was not sure how much more I had left in me, the answer was clearly ‘enough!’
